Description
What is Medroxyprogesterone?
Medroxyprogesterone is a progestogen hormone that is licensed in the UK for dysfunctional (anovulatory) uterine bleeding and secondary amenorrhoea (the cessation of menstruation in women with previous menses). While it is not licensed for period delay, it is frequently prescribed as an alternative to Norethisterone which is unsuitable for some women, and particularly when travelling by air for more than 6 hours.
When taken a few days before your period is due, Medroxyprogesterone will raise your progesterone levels which delays the start of your period. Once treatment has finished, these levels return to normal, and your period will then typically start after a couple of days.
What Dosage is Right for me?
The dosage is ONE tablet (10mg) to be taken three times a day starting at least 3 days before your period is due.One tablet should be taken three times a day with water. We recommend that you read the manufacturer’s leaflet on your medication before taking it.
